This book is written by J R MacGregor who writes biographical books and he focuses on historical figures, economic founders and modern super-achievers. John D Rockefeller also wrote his own autography subtitled “Random Reminiscences of Men and Events”. Other authors who have written about John D Rockefeller include Ron Chernow, Clyde Abernathy, and Allan Nevins.
Like so many wealthy people, John D Rockefeller came from relatively humble beginnings. Regardless of your current financial situation, there is no reason you can’t create wealth and enjoy the benefits of that wealth. This book may help you develop your own strategies for wealth building and developing a philosophy of the best way to utilize that wealth.
Although very wealthy, Rockefeller’s needs were very basic and always lived a fugal and religious life. During his lifetime, he gave away millions of dollars and established some of the finest institutions in America, including the University of Chicago.
There is also a darker side to his personality, but I will leave you to discover all the tantalizing bits for yourself.
To some extent Rockefeller was in the right place at the right time. But more importantly, he as able to take advantage of a unique situation. He was born at a time when the oil industry did not exist. He had the opportunity with his partners to develop the Standard Oil empire, which commenced in 1870. He was also fortunate that this was the time of the development of the Ford car and hence his company was able to provide fuel for this new mode of transport for the masses.
In terms of wealth, it is said that Rockefeller’s wealth is about the same as that of Elon Musk. That is about 1.6% of the GDP of America.
Rockefeller was one of just four of the great titans of his time, the other three were J.P. Morgan, Jay Gould and Andrew Carnegie. You may like to read The Tycoons, which is the story of these four great men. It describes how they invented the American Super Economy.
The book is well written and easy to read. I would recommend this book to those who have a historical interest in the great achievers of the world.
